WHO Alert: Regulatory body says syrups sent only to Gambia

In a statement on Thursday, the Union health ministry said the WHO had informed the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) that it was providing technical assistance and advice to the Gambia, where 66 children have died. WHO suspects the deaths are linked to the use of the syrups that may have been contaminated with Diethylene Glycol or Ethylene Glycol - a toxic substance associated with several cases of mass poisoning.
