Surgical ciliated cyst of the maxilla: report of a rare late surgical complication

Surgical ciliated cyst (SCC) is a rare lesion supposed to arise due to the entrapment of the remnants of the maxillary sinus lining epithelium in the surgical bone wound. A 51-year-old White woman complained of painful enlargement in the right malar region for approximately 1 year. Her medical history revealed a surgical intervention after a zygomatic bone fracture 10 years earlier. Computed tomographic sections showed a hypodense unilocular image causing expansion of the maxillary sinus walls and fenestration of the orbit floor.
