This work is an important addition to the literature as the goal of decreasing opioid prescribing for urologic patients is not limited to the urologist alone. Patients with suspected renal colic often seek initial care in the Emergency Department where a primary focus is on the management of acute pain. How this pain is managed in the acute setting can have significant implications. This can potentially be a patient's initial exposure to opioid medications and also may impact how urologists are able to manage these same patients in the post-surgical setting.
