Plasma bile acids in association with Crohn's disease
CONCLUSION: Crohn's disease may be associated with altered plasma bile acid composition. The significance of colonic bacterial diversity in this context needs to be investigated in further studies.PMID:38505982 | DOI:10.1080/00365521.2024.2328592 (Source: Scandinavian Journal of Gastroenterology)

Substantial cost savings of ultrasound-based management over magnetic resonance imaging-based management in an inflammatory bowel disease service
CONCLUSIONS: Findings from this work indicate that IUS is a potential cost-saving option when compared to MRE when used in the management of CD. This is in addition to the cost difference of the radiological modalities. A large, multicentre, prospective study is needed to validate these initial findings.PMID:38501494 | DOI:10.1080/00365521.2024.2330588 (Source: Scandinavian Journal of Gastroenterology)

Does the presence of an esophageal motor disorder influence the response to anti-reflux mucosectomy (ARMS) for refractory GERD?
CONCLUSION: The presence of esophageal motor disorders does not seem to impact ARMS response, suggesting the technique's consideration in this population. Larger studies are essential for confirming these results and exploring treatment response and post-operative predictors.PMID:38497142 | DOI:10.1080/00365521.2024.2331554 (Source: Scandinavian Journal of Gastroenterology)

Liquid biopsy of oesophageal squamous cell carcinoma: implications in diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment monitoring
Scand J Gastroenterol. 2024 Mar 11:1-12. doi: 10.1080/00365521.2024.2310167. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOesophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is a common malignant tumour of the gastrointestinal tract. Early detection and access to appropriate treatment are crucial for the long-term survival of patients. However, limited diagnostic and monitoring methods are available for identifying early stage ESCC. Endoscopic screening and surgical resection are commonly used to diagnose and treat early ESCC. However, these methods have disadvantages, such as high recurrence, lethality, and mortality rates. Therefore, methods to...

Congenital sucrase-isomaltase deficiency in T ürkiye; a single center experience
CONCLUSION: In CSID, defined as an autosomal recessive disease, clinical symptoms can also be seen in heterozygous cases previously described as carriers, and these patients also benefit from sacrosidase enzyme replacement therapy. In light of these findings, the autosomal recessive definition of CSID does not fully characterize the disease. What is Known:CSID is a rare inherited carbohydrate malabsorption disorder caused by sucrase-isomaltase gene variants. In congenital sucrase-isomaltase deficiency, an autosomal recessively inherited disorder, symptoms can also be seen in individuals with heterozygous mutations. What is ne...
