Association between gene polymorphisms and initial warfarin therapy in patients after heart valve surgery
CONCLUSION: The genotypes of CYP2C9, VKORC1, and GGCX were found to have a significant impact on INR variability during the initial phase of warfarin therapy. However, no significant association was observed between TTR and gene polymorphisms. These findings suggest that focusing on INR variability is crucial in clinical practice, and preoperative detection of gene polymorphisms should be considered to assist in the initiation of warfarin therapy.PMID:38457019 | DOI:10.1007/s43440-024-00575-8 (Source: Pharmacological Reports)

Cannabinoids in the treatment of glioblastoma
Pharmacol Rep. 2024 Mar 8. doi: 10.1007/s43440-024-00580-x. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTGlioblastoma (GBM) is the most prevalent primary malignant tumor of the nervous system. While the treatment of other neoplasms is increasingly more efficacious the median survival rate of GBM patients remains low and equals about 14 months. Due to this fact, there are intensive efforts to find drugs that would help combat GBM. Nowadays cannabinoids are becoming more and more important in the field of cancer and not only because of their properties of antiemetic drugs during chemotherapy. These compounds may have a direct cytotoxic eff...

The protective effects of statins in traumatic brain injury
Pharmacol Rep. 2024 Mar 7. doi: 10.1007/s43440-024-00582-9. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTTraumatic brain injury (TBI), often referred to as the "silent epidemic", is the most common cause of mortality and morbidity worldwide among all trauma-related injuries. It is associated with considerable personal, medical, and economic consequences. Although remarkable advances in therapeutic approaches have been made, current treatments and clinical management for TBI recovery still remain to be improved. One of the factors that may contribute to this gap is that existing therapies target only a single event or pathology. However, ...

Opioid use disorder (OUD) and treatment for opioid problems among OUD symptom subtypes in individuals misusing opioids
CONCLUSIONS: There were considerable differences in OUD symptom patterns and substance use treatment among individuals who misused opioids. The findings indicate a substantial unmet need for OUD treatment and point to patterns of heterogeneity within OUD that can inform development of treatment programs.PMID:38414666 | PMC:PMC10897812 | DOI:10.1016/j.dadr.2024.100220 (Source: Pharmacological Reports)
