Impact of intensified chemotherapy in metastatic pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) in clinical routine in Europe
Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is associated with poor prognosis. Gemcitabine is the standard chemotherapy for patients with metastatic pancreatic adenocarcinoma (MPA). Randomized clinical trials evaluating intensified chemotherapies including FOLFIRINOX and nab-paclitaxel plus gemcitabine (NAB+GEM) have shown improvement in survival. Here, we have evaluated the efficacy of intensified chemotherapy versus gemcitabine monotherapy in real-life settings across Europe. (Source: Pancreatology)

Characterization of long-term prognosis in acute pancreatitis: An explorative analysis
Severity classification systems of acute pancreatitis (AP) assess inpatient morbidity and mortality without predicting outpatient course of AP. To provide appropriate outpatient care, determinants of long-term prognosis must also be identified. The aim of this study was to define clinical groups that carry long-term prognostic significance in AP. (Source: Pancreatology)

Gene expression analysis of embryonic pancreas development master regulators and terminal cell fate markers in resected pancreatic cancer: A correlation with clinical outcome
Despite the recent introduction of new drugs and the development of innovative multi-target treatments, the prognosis of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) remains very poor. Even when PDAC is resectable, the rate of local or widespread disease recurrence remains particularly high. Currently, reliable prognostic biomarkers of recurrence are lacking. We decided to explore the potential usefulness of pancreatic developmental regulators as biomarkers of PDAC relapse. (Source: Pancreatology)

Organotypic slice cultures of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma preserve the tumor microenvironment and provide a platform for drug response
/Objective: The conventional models currently used to evaluate various anti-tumor therapeutic agents are not sufficient for representing human pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDA), which has a unique tumor microenvironment. We aimed to produce an organotypic slice culture model from human PDA that resembles the in  vivo situation and to evaluate the responses of PDA slices to established cytotoxic drugs. Higher notch expression implies poor survival in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma: A systematic review and meta-analysis
At present, pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is a fetal disease lack of effective prognostic and therapeutic methods resulting in high mortality. The Notch signaling has been demonstrated being up- or down-regulated in many cancers, but the effects in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma are still controversial. Moreover, the available cases in an individual study are of small samples. Therefore, it is essential to define the effect of Notch signaling in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma with larger samples. Early removal of metal stents in walled off pancreatic necrosis
Endoscopic transmural drainage is the preferred drainage route for walled off necrosis (WON) with larger diameter transmural tract dilatation and placement of multiple plastic stents being advocated to achieve effective drainage of solid necrotic material [1]. Development of dedicated fully covered large diameter metal stents made the management of WON with significant solid debris easier. These stents are easy to deploy with high rate technical success. Also, direct endoscopic necrosectomy (DEN) can be easily performed through the large calibre stent [2]. (Source: Pancreatology)

Diagnosis and management of pancreatic cancer in adults: A summary of guidelines from the UK National Institute for Health and Care Excellence
To enable standardisation of care of pancreatic cancer patients and facilitate improvement in outcome, the United Kingdom's National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) developed a clinical guideline for the diagnosis and management of pancreatic cancer in adults. Systematic literature searches, systematic review and meta-analyses were undertaken. Recommendations were drafted on the basis of the group's interpretation of the best available evidence of clinical and cost effectiveness. (Source: Pancreatology)

Rationale and feasibility of mucin expression profiling by qRT-PCR as diagnostic biomarkers in cytology specimens of pancreatic cancer
Aberrantly expressed mucin glycoproteins (MUC) play important roles in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), yet their use as a diagnostic aid in fine-needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) is poorly documented. The aim of this study was to investigate the rationale and feasibility of mucin (MUC1, MUC2, MUC3, MUC4, MUC5AC, and MUC6) expression profiling by RT-PCR for diagnostic applications in cytology. Impact of preoperative sarcopenia on postoperative outcomes following pancreatic resection: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Morphometric analysis of sarcopenia has garnered interest due to its putative role in predicting outcomes following surgery for a variety of pathologies, including resection for pancreatic disease. However, there are no standard recommendations on whether sarcopenia is a clinically relevant predictor of outcomes in this setting. The aim of this study was to review the prognostic impact of preoperatively diagnosed sarcopenia on postoperative outcomes following pancreatic resection. (Source: Pancreatology)
