Non-lesional epilepsy does not necessarily convey poor outcomes after invasive monitoring followed by resection or thermal ablation
Neurol Res. 2024 Apr 11:1-9. doi: 10.1080/01616412.2024.2340879. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOBJECTIVE: We aimed to compare outcomes including seizure-free status at the last follow-up in adult patients with medically refractory focal epilepsy identified as lesional vs. non-lesional based on their magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings who underwent invasive evaluation followed by subsequent resection or thermal ablation (LiTT).METHODS: We identified 88 adult patients who underwent intracranial monitoring between 2014 and 2021. Of those, 40 received resection or LiTT, and they were dichotomized based on MRI findings, ...

The level of cytokines in tears as a novel indicator of demyelinating diseases
CONCLUSIONS: Our results show that MS and other demyelination diseases lead to decrease in the overall level of cytokines in tears. Further research is needed to determine the role of tear fluid in the assessment of demyelinating disorders like MS.PMID:38602307 | DOI:10.1080/01616412.2024.2337502 (Source: Neurological Research)

Correlation between plasma lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 levels and risk of ischaemic stroke recurrence by gender in the Chinese population
CONCLUSION: Elevated plasma Lp-PLA2 is an independent risk factor for recurrent ischaemic stroke but is not strongly associated with the degree of cerebral damage. The predictive value of baseline Lp-PLA2 for stroke recurrence risk was higher in females than in males.PMID:38602308 | DOI:10.1080/01616412.2024.2340886 (Source: Neurological Research)

Synergistic interaction of guanfacine or dexmedetomidine coadministered with lidocaine for cutaneous analgesia in rats
CONCLUSIONS: We showed that guanfacine elicits dose-dependent cutaneous analgesia when administered subcutaneously. Lidocaine is less potent than guanfacine or dexmedetomidine. Both guanfacine and dexmedetomidine enhance the potency and duration of lidocaine. Better synergistic responses we are getting with guanfacine plus lidocaine.PMID:38591725 | DOI:10.1080/01616412.2024.2340881 (Source: Neurological Research)

The effects of trunk repositioning errors on trunk and extremity functions in stroke
CONCLUSION: The model presented in this study could help clinicians and researchers to predict the TRE in patients with stroke. Gait speed, upper extremity motor ability, upper extremity motor impairment, and trunk control should be considered for TRE after a stroke.PMID:38591732 | DOI:10.1080/01616412.2024.2339099 (Source: Neurological Research)
