Risk factor and correlation between postoperative serum myoglobin and acute kidney injury after pulmonary endarterectomy
CONCLUSIONS: Our findings suggest that a high concentration of POD0 sMb may increase the risk of developing AKI following PEA surgery. Increasing albumin concentration could serve as an effective preventive measure against AKI.PMID:38505040 | PMC:PMC10944744 | DOI:10.21037/jtd-23-1510 (Source: Journal of Thoracic Disease)

Hybrid ablation for persistent atrial fibrillation: a narrative review
CONCLUSIONS: While favorable outcomes of hybrid ablation for persistent AF have been reported, it is not recommended for all AF patients due to its invasiveness compared to catheter ablation. Additionally, some patients with persistent AF maintain sinus rhythm with catheter ablation alone. More clinical data are needed to determine which patients are suitable candidates for hybrid ablation.PMID:38505041 | PMC:PMC10944770 | DOI:10.21037/jtd-23-1671 (Source: Journal of Thoracic Disease)

CONCLUSIONS: HOXA5-induced DNM3OS promoted the proliferation, migration, and expression of fibrosis-related genes in human embryo lung fibroblast via recruiting EZH2 to epigenetically suppress the expression of TSC2.PMID:38505042 | PMC:PMC10944743 | DOI:10.21037/jtd-23-1145 (Source: Journal of Thoracic Disease)

Feasibility and performance of the chronic obstructive pulmonary disease population screener and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease screening questionnaire in a Chinese physical examination center
CONCLUSIONS: Applying the COPD-PS and COPD-SQ in Chinese PECs is feasible, cost-effective and effective. COPD-PS and COPD-SQ can facilitate the early diagnosis of COPD, and whether they can improve the participants' quality of life would benefit a further study. It is recommended that the COPD-PS or COPD-SQ questionnaires be added to the screening of the physical examination program in PECs as part of health checks for people over 40 years old.PMID:38505045 | PMC:PMC10944747 | DOI:10.21037/jtd-23-1967 (Source: Journal of Thoracic Disease)

Effectiveness of S100 calcium-binding protein A12 combined with modified early warning score in the clinical diagnosis of adult community-acquired pneumonia
CONCLUSIONS: The serum S100A12, PCT, and MEWS can effectively predict the mortality risk in adult CAP patients after 30 days. Serum S100A12 combined with MEWS has a high clinical application value in evaluating the severity and prognosis of adult CAP.PMID:38505048 | PMC:PMC10944726 | DOI:10.21037/jtd-23-1114 (Source: Journal of Thoracic Disease)

Prevalence of pulmonary artery dilation in non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis: a computed tomography analysis from a cohort of the US Bronchiectasis and Nontuberculous Mycobacteria Research Registry
J Thorac Dis. 2024 Feb 29;16(2):1496-1502. doi: 10.21037/jtd-23-1316. Epub 2024 Feb 27.ABSTRACTAlthough pulmonary artery (PA) dilation is independently associated with significant morbidity and mortality in patients with pulmonary diseases irrespective of diagnosed pulmonary hypertension, its relationship with nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) is unknown. The Bronchiectasis and NTM Research Registry is a multicenter registry created to foster research in non-cystic fibrosis (CF) bronchiectasis and NTM lung disease. The majority of patients with non-CF bronchiectasis at Oregon Health & Science University have NTM infect...

Enhanced recovery after surgery pathway leads to decreased length of stay for patients undergoing minimally invasive lung resection
CONCLUSIONS: The implementation of an ERAS protocol led to decreased LOS and decreased ICU admission in patients undergoing minimally invasive lung resection. Process standardization optimizes performance by providers by decreasing decision fatigue and improving decision making, which may contribute to the improved outcomes observed in this study.PMID:38505051 | PMC:PMC10944727 | DOI:10.21037/jtd-23-1500 (Source: Journal of Thoracic Disease)

Direct oral anticoagulants compared with warfarin in patients with left ventricular thrombus: a cohort study from China
CONCLUSIONS: This study showed no significant difference in thrombus resolution between DOAC and warfarin. DOAC might be an alternative to warfarin for the treatment of LV thrombus. However, further large prospective studies are required to explore the efficacy and safety of DOAC in patients with LV thrombus.PMID:38505052 | PMC:PMC10944738 | DOI:10.21037/jtd-23-1582 (Source: Journal of Thoracic Disease)
