An ex-vivo model for investigating bacterial extrusion from infected root canals during masticatory function
The extrusion of bacteria from infected root canals may lead to increase in symptoms, expansion of periapical lesions and contribution to systemic diseases. The aim of this study is to investigate a potential proof-of-concept model to study the extent to which bacteria can escape from infected root canals under dynamic loading (simulated chewing). Effect of Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor (Paroxetine) on Newly Formed Bone Volume: Real-Time In  Vivo Micro–computed Tomographic Analysis
Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) are commonly used to treat depression and anxiety. The purpose of this study was to assess in real time the effect of paroxetine, an SSRI, on newly formed bone volume (NFBV) in standardized calvarial defects (SCDs) in rats. Effects of Rheumatoid Arthritis on the Progression of Pulpitis and Apical Periodontitis in SKG Mice
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disease that involves joint inflammation. Although periodontal disease reportedly contributes to RA onset, the associations of RA with pulpitis and apical periodontitis have not been described. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of immune response disruption of RA for pulpitis and apical periodontitis with SKG mice. (Source: Journal of Endodontics)

Methods: SKG and BALB/c (control) mice were used to establish models of pulp infection. Histological studies of pulp and apical periodontal tissue were performed at 3, 5, 7, 14 and 28 days; odontoblast dynamics were analyzed by anti-Nestin staining, a...

Fracture resistance of endodontically treated premolars using nanohybrid composite, fiber-reinforced composite, horizontal glass fiber posts and ceramic inlays: An in vitro study
This study evaluated the resistance to fracture of endodontically treated premolars (ETPs) with mesio-occluso-distal (MOD) cavities filled with nanohybrid composite (NHC), fiber reinforced composite (FRC), horizontal glass fiber posts (HFP) and ceramic inlays (CI). (Source: Journal of Endodontics)

CBCT segmentation and additive manufacturing for the management of root canals with ledges: A case report and technique.
CBCT assessment of a ledge could be useful to a clinician, however, utilising this information effectively during a treatment procedure can be challenging. Advanced additive manufacturing technologies combined with semi-automated segmentation of root canals can help simulate the ledge and help in management of these iatrogenic complications.A patient presented after unsuccessful root canal treatment with a ledge on the left mandibular first molar. A CBCT was taken, and the images imported into a segmentation software (Mimics ®, Materialise™). (Source: Journal of Endodontics)

Articaine Infiltrations of the Mandibular Lateral Incisor —Is It Volume or Location of the Infiltrations That Affect Success? A Prospective, Randomized Crossover Study
A combination labial infiltration (1.8  mL) plus lingual infiltration (1.8 mL) of 4% articaine with 1:100,000 epinephrine in the mandibular lateral incisor was found superior to a labial infiltration of 1.8 mL of the same solution. However, it is not known whether the volume or the location had the greatest effect. Therefore, the purp ose of this prospective, randomized crossover study was to determine the anesthetic efficacy of a labial infiltration of a 3.6 mL volume of 4% articaine with 1:100,000 epinephrine compared with labial infiltration (1.8 mL) plus lingual infiltration (1.8 mL) of 4% articaine with 1:100,00...

Unraveling the endodontic archaeome: a systematic review with meta-analysis
The controversial issue of whether the Archaea domain plays a role in endodontic infections is the focus of this systematic review with meta-analysis. The aim is to emphasize the significance of minority microbial domains in oral dysbiosis by evaluating the prevalence of archaea in root canals and its association with clinical parameters such as symptomatology and type of endodontic infection. Retrospective evaluation of periradicular biopsies: an 18-year study
Radiographic findings in periradicular areas are repeatedly associated with infected root canal systems. Although non-odontogenic lesions in teeth are reported to be low, they often mimic periapical pathoses, and consequently, histopathologic examinations after surgical revisions are nurtured. Insights into the September 2023 Issue of the JOE
In this issue of the JOE, Liu et al., (1) explored the relationship between diabetes mellitus (DM) and apical periodontitis from 15 studies using meta-analysis. Eight of the studies were cross-sectional studies. Nine studies were longitudinal cohorts, and one cross-sectional cohort study was analyzed in this investigation. The authors used Newcastle-Ottawa Scale for Risk of Bias. The authors used odds ratio with 95% confidence interval to determine the quantitative analysis. A total of 1,087 patients were included in this meta-analysis. (Source: Journal of Endodontics)
