Medication Non-adherence and predictor factors among adult Asthmatic patients in Ethiopia: a Systematic review and Meta-Analysis
Conclusion: Asthma medication non-adherence is notably high in Ethiopia. Addressing medication non-adherence requires a comprehensive approach, including clear communication between healthcare providers, patient education and addressing financial barriers to ensure better adherence in asthma patients.PMID:38526038 | DOI:10.1080/02770903.2024.2332353 (Source: Journal of Asthma)

The Impact of Insomnia and Depression on Asthma Control
J Asthma. 2024 Mar 25:1-6. doi: 10.1080/02770903.2024.2335367. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPoor sleep quality is often reported by individuals with asthma, particularly by those who have poor asthma control overall. However, there is little understanding of how underlying sleep disorders such as insomnia may impact asthma control. Furthermore, given the frequent overlap of depression and insomnia, the incremental impact of mood disorders and insomnia on asthma control remains unclear. We conducted a retrospective analysis of patients at a large asthma center to further elucidate connections between these disease processes...

Effect of pulmonary rehabilitation on functional status dyspnea and quality of life among post COVID-19 patients
CONCLUSION: Pulmonary rehabilitation had positive effects on health-related quality of life, post-COVID-19 functional status, and perceived exertion. The experimental group benefited from improved HRQL, suggesting an overall enhancement in their well-being. The study provides preliminary evidence supporting the effectiveness of pulmonary rehabilitation as an intervention for improving outcomes in individuals post-COVID-19.PMID:38527173 | DOI:10.1080/02770903.2024.2334899 (Source: Journal of Asthma)

Expert panel consensus recommendations on the utilization of nebulized budesonide for managing asthma and COPD in both stable and exacerbation stages in Thailand
CONCLUSION: Nebulized budesonide is effective and well-tolerated in treating asthma and COPD, with less systemic adverse effects compared to systemic corticosteroids. High-dose nebulized budesonide can enhance clinical outcomes for severe and mild exacerbations with slow systemic corticosteroid response. Nebulized budesonide can substitute systemic corticosteroids in some situations.PMID:38527278 | DOI:10.1080/02770903.2024.2334897 (Source: Journal of Asthma)

Real-world clinical remission of severe asthma with benralizumab in Spanish adults with severe asthma
The objective was to describe clinical remission after benralizumab prescription in routine clinical practice. Retrospective multicenter study with data from four hospitals in Valencian Community (Spain) with asthma units between 2019 and 2020. Data was gathered at baseline and after 12 months. We considered clinical remission after one year if the patient remained without exacerbations and use of systemic corticosteroids and with good clinical control and normal lung function. Data from 139 patients was gathered. At 12-month follow-up, 44.1% were at clinical remission, since 84.0%, 77.5%, 51.0% and 95.5% of patients did n...

Bronchiectasis Severity Index and FACED scores in patients with allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis complicating asthma: do they correlate with immunological severity or high-attenuation mucus?
Conclusion: We found no correlation between BSI and FACED with immunological parameters in ABPA. However, we found a significant correlation between BSI and FACED and a weak correlation between SGRQ and BHQ. ABPA likely requires a separate disease-severity scoring system.PMID:38520686 | DOI:10.1080/02770903.2024.2334901 (Source: Journal of Asthma)

Analysis of the Potential Molecular Mechanisms of Asthma and Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease
This study aimed to explore the biological markers related to asthma and GERD by bioinformatics analysis. Initially, gene expression datasets for asthma and GERD were obtained from the GEO database, and subsequent differential expression analysis yielded 620 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) for asthma and 2367 DEGs for GERD. The intersection of these two gene sets yielded a total of 84 DEGs. Gene ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway enrichment analyses revealed that these genes may be involved in steroid hormone secretion and cellular stress response. Five hub genes (PTGDR2, CPA3, F...
