Importance of physical detraining in functional capacity of individuals with chronic peripheral arterial occlusive disease: a cross-sectional pilot study
Conclusions The present pilot study allows us to conclude that the functional capacity of individuals with PAOD who participated in a physical tra ining program and subsequently underwent detraining was not superior in relation to individuals who did not participate in a physical training program. The results of the present study serve to encourage maintenance of physical exercise, since physical training is no longer effective if detraining o ccurs. (Source: Jornal Vascular Brasileiro)

Massive thrombosis and phlegmasia cerulea dolens while taking rivaroxaban: case report and review
Abstract Our study describes a fatal case of phlegmasia cerulea dolens and massive venous thrombosis in a patient taking rivaroxaban regularly to treat cerebral venous sinus thrombosis. Blood tests samples were positive for lupus anticoagulant. The unique evolution of the case, as well as the positivity for lupus anticoagulant, raises the possibility of an acquired hypercoagulation syndrome. We highlight the fact that the test recommended as the first line for lupus anticoagulant diagnosis (dilute Russell viper venom time) is the most affected by rivaroxaban, leading to a high prevalence of false-positive results. We also ...

Improvement of semen parameters after coil embolization of varicoceles: a systematic review
The objective of the review was to assess the evidence on the role of embolization using coils alone for semen parameter improvement in men with varicocele, since embolization using coils is the most cost-effective method of varicocele repair. Study quality was assessed using the methodological index for non-randomized studies (MINORS). Out of six retrospective and two prospective observational or comparative clinical studies involving 701 patients, semen concentration improved significantly in all five studies that assessed this parameter. Mean semen motility improved significantly in seven studies. The impact of emboliza...

The impact of exercise training on calf pump function, muscle strength, ankle range of motion, and health-related quality of life in patients with chronic venous insufficiency at different stages of severity: a systematic review
The objective of this article was to discuss the effects of ET on the calf pump, functional parameters, and quality of life of patients with mild and advanced CVI. A systematic review was conducted and eleven studies were included. In patients with mild CVI, ET was effective for improving venous reflux, muscle strength, ankle range of motion, and quality of life. In advanced CVI patients, ET increased ejection fraction, reduced residual volume fraction, and improved muscle strength and ankle range of motion, but did not change venous reflux indices or quality of life. It is concluded that ET is effective for improving calf...

Bleeding risk assessment for venous thromboembolism prophylaxis

Compartment syndrome in the first dorsal interosseous compartment: case report
