Factors associated with a high-risk return visit to the emergency department: a case-crossover study
Conclusions We found a relatively small fraction of discharges (0.1%) developed serious adverse events during the return ED visits. We identified symptom-based and vital sign-based warning signs that may be used for patient self-monitoring at home, as well as new-onset signs during the return visit to alert healthcare providers for timely management of these high-risk revisits. Need for recovery and physician well-being in emergency departments: national survey findings
Conclusion This study confirms an association between increased NFR score and self-perceived well-being characteristics. Factors previously reported to reduce NFR could therefore be important initiatives to improve well-being of the ED workforce. (Source: European Journal of Emergency Medicine)

Gender distribution in emergency medicine journals: editorial board memberships in top-ranked academic journals
Conclusion The gender gap in editorial boards and among editors-in-chief of emergency medicine journals seems to be consistent for the last 10 years. Gender disparity appears to be substantial in academic emergency medicine: The percentage of women in emergency medicine editorial boards was lower compared to editorial boards of four other medical specialties. Mid and long-term effects of a SBIRT program for at-risk drinkers attending to an emergency department. Follow-up results from a randomized controlled trial.
Conclusions In this secondary analysis for mid- and long-term effects of a specialized SBIRT program, there was no significant difference in the reduction of risky drinkers at 18 weeks and 1 year. The small size of the studied sample and the low retention rate precluded any significant conclusion, although point estimates suggest a positive effect. Overall, SBIRT programs are an effective tool to reduce alcohol use at short time and to refer patients to specialized treatment; however, its effects seem to decay over time. Emergency Medical Services response levels and subsequent emergency contacts among patients with a history of mental illness in Denmark: a nationwide study
Conclusion More than one-third of the study population had a history of mental illness. These patients received a significantly lighter EMS response than patients with no history of mental illness. They were significantly more likely to use the emergency care system again if released at scene. This risk increased with the increasing severity of the mental illness.
