Presence of the partner in the operating room during emergency caesarean section: A scoping review
CONCLUSION
Limited evidence exists regarding the presence of the partner during emergency caesarean sections, but is of low quality. Most parents prefer having their partner present. Staff can be reluctant, especially when general anaesthesia is used. (Source: European Journal of Anaesthesiology)

Exploring cardiac effects after oxytocin 2.5 IU or carbetocin 100 μg: A randomised controlled trial in women undergoing planned caesarean delivery
BACKGROUND
Oxytocin can stimulate release of myocardial biomarkers troponin I and T, prolong QTc and induce ST-depression.
OBJECTIVE
To explore cardiac changes after either intravenous carbetocin or oxytocin.
STUDY DESIGN
Exploratory phase 4 randomised controlled trial.
SETTING
Obstetrics units of Oslo University Hospital, Norway between September 2015 and May 2018.
PARTICIPANTS
Forty healthy, singleton pregnant women aged 18 to 50 years at gestational age at least 36 weeks with a planned caesarean delivery.
INTERVENTIONS
Participants were randomised to receive either oxytocin 2.5...

Predicting personalised remifentanil effect site concentration for surgical incision using the nociception level index: A prospective calibration and validation study
BACKGROUND
Inadequate antinociception can cause haemodynamic instability. The nociception level (NOL) index measures response to noxious stimuli, but its capacity to predict optimal antinociception is unknown.
OBJECTIVE
To determine if NOL index change to a tetanic stimulus in cardiac and noncardiac surgery patients could predict the required remifentanil concentration for haemodynamic stability at skin incision.
DESIGN
A prospective two-phase cohort study.
SETTING
University hospital.
PATIENTS
Patients undergoing remifentanil-propofol target controlled infusion (TCI) anaesthesia.
INTERVE...

Discharge readiness after remimazolam versus propofol for colonoscopy: A randomised, double-blind trial
BACKGROUND
Remimazolam is an ultrashort-acting benzodiazepine that is potentially a practical option for procedural sedation in colonoscopy.
OBJECTIVE
To test the hypothesis that remimazolam could provide a noninferior discharge time to propofol for ambulatory colonoscopy.
DESIGN
A prospective, randomised, double-blind, noninferiority clinical trial.
SETTING
Ambulatory endoscopy centre.
PATIENTS
A total of 132 adult participants undergoing ambulatory colonoscopy were enrolled.
INTERVENTIONS
Participants were randomly assigned in a 1 : 1 ratio to receive propofol or remimazolam for...
