Front Cover: Analysis of inorganic cations and amino acids in high salinity samples by capillary electrophoresis and conductivity detection: Implications for in ‐situ exploration of ocean worlds
DOI:10.1002/elps.201800266The cover picture shows inorganic salts (represented by NaCl crystal) and amino acids, important biosignatures in the search for extraterrestrial life. As in Earth's oceans, samples from Ocean Worlds such as Europa (Jupiter's moon) and Enceladus (Saturn's moon) are expected to contain high amounts of salts. We have developed an analytical method (bottom trace) capable of simultaneous determination of inorganic salts and amino acids, regardless the sample salinity. This method could be used in future missions targeting Ocean Worlds to determine the concentration of salts, to evaluate habitability, ...

Microfluidic device embedding electrodes for dielectrophoretic manipulation of cells ‐A review
AbstractMicrofluidic device embedding electrodes realizes cell manipulation with the help of dielectrophoresis. Cell manipulation is an important technology for cell sorting and cell population purification. Till now, the theory of dielectrophoresis has been greatly developed. Microfluidic devices with various arrangements of electrodes have been reported from the beginning of the single non ‐uniform electric field to the later multiple physical fields. This paper reviews the research status of microfluidic device embedding electrodes for cell manipulation based on dielectrophoresis. Firstly, the working principle of die...

Rapid separation of post ‐blast explosive residues on glass electrophoresis microchips
This study describes the development of an analytical methodology based on the use of microchip electrophoresis (ME) devices integrated with capacitively coupled contactless conductivity detection (C4D) for the separation and detection of inorganic anions in post ‐blast explosive residues. The best separation condition was achieved using a running buffer composed of 35 mmol/L lactic acid, 10 mmol/L histidine and 0.070 mmol/L cetyl(trimethyl ammonium) bromide. For C4D measurements, the highest sensitivity was obtained applying a 700  kHz sinusoidal wave with excitation voltage of 20 Vpp. The separation of Cl−, NO3...
