Touch imprint cytology on endoscopic ultrasound fine ‐needle biopsy provides comparable sample quality and diagnostic yield to standard eus‐fna specimens in the evaluation of solid pancreatic lesions
ConclusionsEUS ‐FNB‐TIC provides comparable samples to those of EUS‐FNA‐SC and combines the benefits of cytology and histology for the evaluation of SPLs by employing a single needle during the same endoscopic procedure. This article is protected by copyright. Screening system for EGFR mutation detection in cytology cell ‐free DNA of cerebrospinal fluid based on assured sample quality
ConclusionsThe cobas® EGFR Mutation Test v2.0 can accurately detectEGFR mutations, including T790M, from supernatant cfDNA of CSF cytology samples. Utilization of supernatant cytology cfDNA in CSF will allow us to perform bothEGFR mutation analysis and cytopathological diagnosis at the same time. This represents a new role of cytology in patient treatment, based on assured sample quality. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved. (Source: Cytopathology)

Liquid ‐based endometrial cytology using SurePathTM is not inferior to suction endometrial tissue biopsy for detecting endometrial malignancies‐Midterm report of a multicenter study advocated by Japan Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists‐
ConclusionsThe clinical performance of liquid ‐based endometrial cytology for detecting endometrial malignancies was almost identical to the performance of suction endometrial tissue biopsy. This indicates that liquid‐based endometrial cytology was not inferior to suction endometrial tissue biopsy for the detection of endometrial cancer. Th e liquid‐based endometrial cytology is appropriate for various clinical situations as the first‐step detecting tool. In addition, it could be used for cancer surveillance for women with signs highly suggestive of endometrial malignancies and in Lynch syndrome patients, on a larg...

Management of Cytological Material, Pre ‐Analytical Procedures and Bio‐Banking in Effusion Cytopathology
This article describes the acquisition and management of serous effusion fluids, methods for preservation and transportation, different techniques of cytoprepara tion, application of immunocytochemistry, flow cytometry, and fluorescence in‐situ hybridization (FISH), as well as DNA extraction for polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and next generation sequencing (NGS). Principles of bio‐banking of effusion samples are also discussed which is getting more impo rtant in correlation with the developments in personalized medicine. This article is protected by copyright. Abnormal Immunolabeling of SMAD4 in Cell Block Specimens Distinguish Malignant and Benign Pancreatic Cells
ConclusionsDecreased SMAD4 immunolabeling provided improved sensitivity as compared to negative SMAD4 immunolabeling; therefore, it is important to compare SMAD4 expression in a sample to its expression in normal cells. Abnormal SMAD4 labeling showed low sensitivity and high specificity; therefore, SMAD4 staining using EUS ‐FNA samples might be helpful to detect malignancies that possessSMAD4 gene abnormalities. This article is protected by copyright.
