Evaluation of evidence-based medicine adoption among Nigerian surgeons: competence, knowledge, attitudes, practices, and barriers
CONCLUSIONS: Surgeons in Nigeria have a high level of awareness and use of EBM, as indicated by the 72% awareness rate found in our study, but their knowledge and confidence in its application are low. Our findings indicate that the quality of EBM training in the region needs to be reevaluated.PMID:38433507 | PMC:PMC10915763 | DOI:10.3325/cmj.2024.65.3 (Source: Croatian Medical Journal)

SARS-CoV-2 infection among physicians over time in Ontario, Canada: a population-based retrospective cohort study
CONCLUSION: Physicians had higher rates of infection than community-matched controls during the first two waves of the pandemic in Ontario, but not from wave 3 onward. Physicians practicing in long-term care facilities and pediatricians were more likely to test positive for SARS-CoV-2 than other physicians.PMID:38433510 | PMC:PMC10915769 | DOI:10.3325/cmj.2024.65.30 (Source: Croatian Medical Journal)

Exploring changes in the perception of e-professionalism among medical and dental students: a quantitative cross-sectional study
CONCLUSION: While medical and dental students recognize the importance of e-professionalism, their perceptions have substantial differences. The need for promoting existing guidelines and integrating e-professionalism into curricula is evident. Continuous monitoring and research in this domain are essential to ensure future health care professionals maintain high standards of online professionalism.PMID:38433511 | PMC:PMC10915766 | DOI:10.3325/cmj.2024.65.43 (Source: Croatian Medical Journal)

Breast lump as the initial presentation of metastatic uterine leiomyosarcoma: a case report and comprehensive literature review
Croat Med J. 2024 Feb 29;65(1):51-58. doi: 10.3325/cmj.2024.65.51.ABSTRACTUterine leiomyosarcoma (uLMS) is a rare but aggressive cancer with a high metastatic potential and an unfavorable prognosis. A 54-year-old woman with a history of uterine fibroids clinically presented with a painless, palpable left breast mass measuring 20 mm. A core biopsy of the breast mass demonstrated a cellular spindle cell neoplasm (a potentially malignant smooth muscle neoplasm; B4). A wide local breast-mass excision was performed, revealing grade-2 leiomyosarcoma. A re-review of the uterine fibroids revealed that the largest one (200 × 130 m...

Gamma knife thalamotomy in treating refractory tremor: initial clinical experience in Croatia
We present two patients with severe, disabling tremor (one with parkinsonian and one with essential tremor) successfully treated with GK thalamotomy, performed in Croatia for the first time. GK thalamotomy should be considered in patients with refractory tremors and contraindications for deep brain stimulation.PMID:38433513 | PMC:PMC10915765 | DOI:10.3325/cmj.2024.65.59 (Source: Croatian Medical Journal)
