Transcriptional Regulation of CD4+ T Cell Differentiation in Experimentally Induced Arthritis and Rheumatoid Arthritis
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disorder characterized by chronic inflammation of the joint synovium and infiltration by activated inflammatory cells. CD4+ T cells form a large proportion of the inflammatory cells invading the synovial tissue, and are involved in the RA pathologic process. In general, CD4+ T cells differentiate into various T helper cell subsets and acquire the functional properties to respond to specific pathogens, and also mediate some autoimmune disorders such as RA. Because the differentiation of T helper cell subsets is determined by the expression of specific transcription factors in respo...

Common Language Description of the Term Rheumatic and Musculoskeletal Diseases (RMDs) for Use in Communication With the Lay Public, Healthcare Providers, and Other Stakeholders Endorsed by the European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR) and the American College of Rheumatology (ACR)
A European League Against Rheumatism–American College of Rheumatology working group consisting of practicing and academic rheumatologists, a rheumatology researcher, and a patient representative created a succinct general statement describing rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases (RMDs) in adults and children in language that can be used in conversations with the lay public, media, healthcare providers, and other stakeholders. Based on the literature review, several elements were deemed important for inclusion in the description of RMDs. First, RMDs encompass many different diseases that can affect individuals at any ag...

Allopurinol Dose Escalation and Mortality among Patients with Gout: A National Propensity ‐Matched Cohort Study
ConclusionThis is the largest study of allopurinol's effect on mortality and the first to use a rigorous active‐comparator design. Dose escalation was associated with a small (<10%) increase in all‐cause mortality, showing that allopurinol dose escalation is unlikely to improve survival as currently prescribed in real life practice characterized by limited dose increases. This article is protected by copyright. Female reproductive and hormonal factors and incidence of primary total knee arthroplasty due to osteoarthritis
ConclusionsReproductive and hormonal factors were associated with knee osteoarthritis risk. These associations remained significant in normal weight women at early reproductive age and non‐obese women at midlife. Further work is needed to understand the complex effect of these factors on knee osteoarthritis. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved. (Source: Arthritis and Rheumatism)
